Session Jig<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMaid in the Meadow<\/strong>” is an Irish double jig in 6\/8 time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is also a reel<\/strong> by the same name. It doesn\u2019t seem to be anywhere near as popular as the jig, but you can find the odd version on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The jig, however, is quite popular<\/strong>. It is not hard to find examples for this melody. But, as is common with a lot of Irish tunes, I couldn\u2019t find much info<\/strong> on the origin. If you can help out, feel free to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tune<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMaid in the Meadow\u201d<\/strong> does not appear in the Fiddler’s Fake Book<\/strong>. Of course, I did find “The Maid Behind the Bar”, and “The Maid on the Green” – not the same thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most recordings for this jig remain close to the traditional<\/strong>, with only minor variations. I learned the tune from the album – “Le Ceolt\u00f3iri Cult\u00farlainne – Foinn Seisi\u00fan 2”<\/strong>. The following tab is pretty much a straight transcription from that album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Maid in the Meadow” is a double jig in the key of G<\/strong>, and is played A-A-B-B.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ok, so last Saturday I published a bluegrass tune to the website called “Grey Eagle<\/a>“. The problem is, last Saturday was March 17th (L\u00e1 Fheile P\u00e1draig<\/strong><\/span>). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How could I put up a bluegrass tune on St. Patty’s day?!!<\/strong> I do apologize to my Irish brothers and sisters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
